Sami graduated from Pitzer College in 2025 with a major in Organizational Studies, focusing on the intersections of environmental politics and community-based social movements. She was introduced to the Rights of Nature through an internship at the CA Department of Water Resources, Office of the Tribal Policy Advisor, and quickly became interested in the framework as a model for relational stewardship and indigenous sovereignty. She continued to explore the Rights of Nature at a local scale, publishing a legal research article applying the framework to her hometown. After graduating, she spent a year working as a community organizer on the north side of Chicago, where she deepened her commitment to building collective power and supporting communities in shaping the systems that affect their lives. She is deeply interested in connecting environmental and social justice movements and exploring how the Rights of Nature can support community-led change
