Internship Opportunities

ELC hosts remote, hybrid, and in-person interns & externs from law schools and other graduate programs in the Spring and Summer each year. We also offer a limited number of undergraduate internship opportunities, including for students at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado.

ELC does not have funding for interns at this time, though we’re happy to support funding or credit-related paperwork through your school.

2027 Internship Application Information

Applications for 2027 Spring and Summer internships are now open. Please click the “apply now” button below. If you have any trouble, please email volunteer@earthlaw.org.

Spring internships are primarily remote. Interns are welcome to work from our Durango office if they are local or visiting the area, and may also have opportunities to connect with Earth Law Center staff at conferences and events throughout the United States and internationally. Application deadline for the Spring cohort is October 31, 2026.

Summer internships are designed to provide an immersive, collaborative experience and are primarily in person at our office in Durango, Colorado. For the summer of 2027, we will host in-person interns June 1–15, 2027 and/or July 1–31, 2027. Application deadline for the Summer cohort is January 15, 2027.

For the summer, applicants should plan to participate during one or both of these in-person sessions. In exceptional circumstances, we may consider a fully remote summer internship for an outstanding applicant who is unable to travel.

Earth Law Center is typically able to help interns identify affordable housing options during their stay in Durango.

We encourage prospective interns to:

  • Join our free online community to connect with others interested in Earth law and the Rights of Nature movement.

  • Enroll in our Earth Law Signature Course to build a strong foundation in Earth law before beginning an internship. While not required, many interns find the course provides valuable context for their work at Earth Law Center.
