Internship Opportunities
ELC hosts remote, hybrid, and in-person interns & externs from law schools and other graduate programs in the Spring and Summer each year. We also host undergraduate interns from Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. Additionally, we will consider in-person interns or fellows who can work from our Durango office at any time of year.
ELC does not have funding for interns at this time, though we’re happy to support funding or credit-related paperwork through your school.
Applications for Spring and Summer 2026 internships are now closed.
If you would be able to do an unpaid 2026 internship mostly or fully in-person at our office in Durango, Colorado, you may still apply by sending an email to volunteer@earthlaw.org with the subject line "2026 internship application." Please include a resume/cv and/or LinkedIn profile, as well as a cover letter (1-page max).
As an alternative way to connect with ELC, feel free to check out our free online forum.
Prospective interns are encouraged to take our Earth Law Signature Course.
Information if you’re considering applying for a 2027 internship:
The application window for 2027 internships will open in September 2026.
Spring interns are typically fully remote though are welcome to work from our office in Durango or connect at events attended by ELC staff around the U.S. or in other countries.
Summer interns are required to spend at least 1-2 weeks working at our Durango office unless circumstances (e.g., difficult visa requirements, financial hardship) make that impossible, and are welcome to work at the office up to the full internship period. We are typically able to find low-cost housing options for the duration of your stay in Durango.
