Legal Drafting

ELC drafts laws, resolutions, declarations, treaty text, and other legal documents recognizing the Rights of Nature, human and nonhuman environmental rights, the rights of future generations, ecocide, and other Earth law movements.

The global community is calling for systems change to solve the global environmental crisis. We are the lawyers who will write systems change into law.

Education

What if the next generation of lawyers, judges, and politicians were all trained in ecocentric law, including the Rights of Nature? We train thousands of students and legal professionals with this goal in mind, building a movement of Earth-centered legal professionals.

Our law school textbook is entitled Earth Law: Emerging Ecocentric Law—A Practitioner’s Guide (Wolters Kluwer, 2021). We hope every law school will teach from it. And we are about to launch the Earth Law Society, an Earth-centered rival to the Federalist Society.

Consulting

ELC consults with companies, nonprofits, and others working to incorporate ecocentrism into their practices. For example, we help create Board Seats for Nature, make Nature (or a particular ecosystem) a shareholder of a company, or do a custom analysis for a particular entity.

If you are an entity that believes in Earth-centered law and want ongoing support, ELC also represents companies as in-house Earth law counsel on retainer.

Litigation & Briefs

ELC submits amicus briefs in courtrooms throughout the world seeking enforcement of the Rights of Nature, human and nonhuman environmental rights, rights of future generations, and other rights-based movements that fall under “Earth law.” We also engage in selective litigation in defense of rivers and other natural entities.
