The California Department of Water Resources (DWR) applied for a permit (called “Clean Water Act water quality certification”) to start to build the Twin Tunnels project, before the public comment period for the project had even ended.  The project includes construction of two 28-foot diameter tunnels and one 40-foot diameter tunnel totaling 14 miles, and two 40-foot diameter each 30 miles long, to funnel water to southern California under the Delta. The Tunnels will hasten the imminent extinction of the Delta smelt, winter-run Chinook salmon, and other species, all occurring because of human mismanagement. Comments on this permit request are due November 9th. Once again, please tell the Governor through his state agencies that the Clean Water Act was not designed to extinguish species, and that the state must instead reject the Tunnels, support waterways' rights in law, and implement sound solutions for California’s water needs.
