Ocean Rights in Ecuador

As the first country to recognize Rights of Nature on a national level, Ecuador leads the way in  defending those rights from the Vilcabamba River to the Galapagos Islands.

Earth Law Center has partnered with Ecuadorian Coordinator of Organizations for the Defense of Nature and the Environment (CEDENMA), International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Hugo Echeverria, Godfrey Merlen, Charles Darwin Foundation and Global Alliance for the Rights of Nature (GARN) to advance ocean rights.

Together we strive to ensure that the Rights of Nature are protected in Ecuador and to advance Rights of Nature in the courts. We are working to create a report on implementation, best practices, and challenges.

You can help by subscribing to our newsletter, volunteering, or donating to Earth Law Center.
